Angela Duckworth, a psychology professor at Penn whose words piqued my curiosity that day. I saw how other countries are driven by community and less be stark individualism and how it created safe and healthy communities. Years ago, I pulled up YouTube and watched a TED Talk from Dr. It took quitting my job and moving to Mexico to realize actually success is not being on top. It took me quitting my job and grind culture to realize that emptier building and grinding is it’s own toxicity. For most companies my humanity isn’t really important, just my labor. No one ever put their hand on my shoulder and said “ Kanoa” it’s okay to rest. We had speakers like this come to my school and while it motivated me to go to college. Grind culture is what created unhappiness in my life and my profession. Teach children to work hard but also teach them when they need to rest and take care of their inner world. The truth is that reactive thinking is associated with poverty and telling a kid who is living day-by-day, "honey, just persevere into the future" is utopian, where as conscientious can be taught (and correlated to education) and CBT can help with accepting bad news.
